With less than 3 hours to go before iOS 8 goes live, we don’t expect today’s download will be a smooth process, not if we are to go on events in recent years. We expect there to be new iOS 8 update problems from the start, much as there was for last year’s version, although we cannot say for sure if the same issues will repeat themselves.
An error occurred downloading iOS 8 — This is one error code that we expect to see today, as we saw the very same message appear on iPads and iPhones last year. If you do get this error message today, then do not worry because you will not be alone. Apple servers will come under a lot of strain today. We would advise you to just be patient and keep trying.
Software Update Unavailable – This is another error you can expect to see today and will be seen after you have downloaded the update and then your device tries to verify the update. Again, this is also down to Apple servers, and so you will need to keep trying, although if you leave it a couple of hours after iOS 8 is released we are sure things will start to calm down — well a little.
We do hope not to see the same error codes in iTunes like we did last year with iOS 7. The codes that some of our readers experienced were 4014 and 4013, which stopped them from upgrading to iOS 7 via iTunes.
Mixed messages – We heard from a few of Product-reviews readers that after they had updated to iOS 7 last year they started to receive text messages that were meant for their partners or children. This can happen if you share an iTunes account, so if it happens with iOS 8 today, then just go to your iMessage in settings and make certain it is just your cell phone number (and email) selected. If there are more, then just deselect those numbers.
One of the biggest problems expected with iOS 8 are apps because while some of them have already been optimized to run on the latest mobile OS, many of them will not, and so we could see a repeat of last year where apps were shutting down. I personally never had any issues last year, and so I hope that will be the same today
What issues do you envisage with iOS 8 later today?
