New Google Phone and Apple Tablet on Verizon

Verizon may not be getting the iPhone any time soon, but the Apple Tablet (iSlate) will use its wireless data network to gain access to the Internet. Verizon will also be getting the new Google Nexus One phone, although an exact date is yet to be released.

Both announcements are seen as a huge deal for the cell phone carrier, two devices that are set to dominate 2010 will do wonders for Verizon’s profile. Just maybe this is a way for the carrier to get their foot in the door with Apple, and we could see a Verizon iPhone this summer.

Recent news suggests that Apple will announce the Apple Tablet PC later this month, January 26 or 27 and will then launch the device in March. The tablet will have a 10 or 11-inch screen and prices are reported to range from $600 to $1000. Lets hope it is not the latter as this could affect sales. The Nexus One is just the first Google-branded handset, with many more to follow this year. According to The Washington Post, Verizon will be getting a CDMA version of this latest smartphone some time in the spring, along with Vodafone in Europe. Looking on the Google website, it does not look as though the CDMA version will be unlocked.

The GSM version of the Google Nexus One will cost $179 on a T-Mobile contract or $529 unlocked. The unlocked version can be used on AT&T, but only be used on the slow EDGE data network. (Read a full review)
