It’s been a while now since Samsung announced that the Galaxy S III won’t be unveiled at next week’s MWC 2012 event in Spain. Previously the company had stated the new device will be showcased at its own event, and today we have a new possible Galaxy S III reveal date for you along with some rumored specs.
Samsung had previously denied that the handset would be getting revealed for the first time at an event next month in France, but now according to a report on Unwired invites for another event have been sent out by Samsung Benelux. The event is for March 15th for an event in Amsterdam, Holland and the invite mentions the company’s 2012 lineup.
Normally it wouldn’t be Samsungs Benelux arm sending out invites for this sort of unveiling, as it would be the company’s global communications division. But it could be an event to showcase the device to the press after it has made its debut elsewhere. The event may not be about mobile devices at all, but some have wondered why the company is not showcasing the device at MWC.
Samsung is seemingly taking a leaf out of Apple’s book and showcasing its flagship device at its own event, just like the iPhone. Before Samsung said they wanted to announce the next Galaxy S smartphone nearer to when it will be available to consumers to actually buy. It is widely believed the Galaxy S3 will be releasing by early summer, which was previously thought to be around the same time as the iPhone 5.
Meanwhile according to a report on Ubergizmo there is a chance that the display on the Samsung Galaxy III will not be HD. Sources are claiming that a Samsung model with the codename GT-I9300 that is believed to be the Galaxy S3, has a screen with a resolution of 1024 x 600. This is almost a 16:9 aspect ratio and has a similar pixel count to that of the Galaxy Tab 7 Plus, and the recently announced Galaxy Tab 2.
Older Samsung models such as the Galaxy Nexus has a display with the ratio of 1280 x 720, which has led to some to think Samsung will not be offering a HD display on the Galaxy S III. But it could easily be a mistake as Samsung had previously listed the Galaxy Nexus had an 800 x 480 WVGA display. As usual we will have to wait until something more concrete or official is announced.
Do you think the Galaxy S III will be released soon?
