Ford is to introduce 13 new electric vehicles to their lineup by 2020, one of which will be the new Ford Focus Electric in 2016. This is all part of almost £2.9 billion worth of investment, and should help them become one of the larger carmakers in terms of EVs.
The Ford Focus Electric production is to start later next year, with a release set for late 2016 in the UK. There are to be a number of changes to this model, such as a new DC fast-charging function, allowing the vehicle to reach an 80 percent charge in just 30 minutes. However, this will only offer a 100 mile range.
What’s so good about this new feature is how it takes the current model two and a half hours to reach the same sort of charge. Other New Ford Focus Electric changes continue with the interior, as there will be a configurable digital instrument cluster. This will not just be a gimmick for looks, as you will get to see real-time use of the electric being supplied to your motors.
You will also be coached on braking, as you will be surprised at just how much energy gets wasted for braking more than you need to. However, do not think you will not be able to have fun in the all-new Focus Electric, as Ford says that it will have a “fun-to-drive character.” Not only that, but it will still perform like any other Focus, and so superb handling and agile steering to match.
As for the price, we are not sure if Ford will increase the price, as the current model sells for £33,500 in the UK.
This is all we know for now, and so we wait for Ford to share more details on its new Focus Electric; although once we know more we will update you.
