When you think of Nintendo a few characters spring to mind and Donkey Kong is definitely one of them, so the imminent release of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze on the Wii U will be a welcome addition to owners of this console. Nintendo make some of the best first-party games on the market and we are expecting another great platformer to add to a growing catalogue of titles for the innovative system.
The game was originally intended to be released back in November last year and it is said to follow on from the 2010 game Donkey Kong Country Returns. Releasing in Japan on Thursday the 13th February 13, those in North America and Europe will have to wait until the 21st and 22nd respectively, with an Australian release also expected on the 22nd February.
This will be the first high-definition instalment and the fifth title in the series, which revolves around a group of Viking invaders called the Snomads, and Donkey Kong will be trying to force other invaders off the island such as owls, penguins and walruses. Additionally, this will be Cranky Kong’s first outing as a playable character in the series.
Below this post we have provided a new Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze trailer that lasts nearly two and half minutes and this opening cutscene shows Donkey Kong’s birthday celebrations brought to a halt as the Snowmads and other animals sail in to invade the island.
Back in December we discussed the upcoming game and spoke about whether Tropical Freeze may have 5th character, as fans contemplate some new gameplay brought to this classic retro character. We mentioned the introduction of a playable Cranky Kong as the 4th character and highlighted Dixie Kong, Diddy Kong, Donkey Kong and Cranky Kong, but we are unsure whether Funky Kong or Kiddy Kong could make an appearance.
