Drinking while under the influence of alcohol is a serious issue, and all over the world thousands of lives are lost just because of the stupidity of some people. I don’t drink alcohol, so never find myself in a situation where you think you are not over the limit and so get into your car and feel as though you are perfectly okay to drive.
However, it doesn’t take a genius to work out that this could be yours or your passenger’s final journey, and then there are other road users and pedestrians to consider as well. There are a huge number of sensible drinkers out there, who would never take that chance and would leave their car at home, or would leave their vehicle at the place where they had been drinking.
The easiest thing to do is never even chance it, even if you think you are okay, but for those who feel as though they are not above the limit, then maybe it’s time to turn to technology before you are pulled over by a law enforcement officer.
There are several New blood alcohol level gadgets on the market; all have the sole purpose to stop drink driving.
First up we have the BACtrack Mobile Breathalyzer, but as this gadget costs $150, it’s not for the casual drinker. However, you cannot put a price on saving lives. This professional gadget will test your blood alcohol level and then transfer that result onto your iOS device. This is the same technology used by law enforcement officers, so you know you will get an accurate reading. More details.
Next we have the TruTouch, and could be the perfect tool if you have a company using heavy machinery and fear your workers have been drinking through their lunch break. We know that this is a controversial device to use at a place of work, but some industries rely on safety. The TruTouch allows the user to place their finger on it and then it will scan your finger and will be able to detect if there is any alcohol in your system. We’re told that workers do have a right to refuse this test, but let’s face it, working when you know you are over the limit is careless.
However, one of the better blood alcohol level gadgets is the Breathometer, which is effectively a Breathalyzer for your smartphone. It’s clear to see this is a popular gadget because it was a Kickstarter project and needed to raise $25,000, but achieved $138,377 instead. The Breathometer will ship in the fall for $49, with US pre-orders already starting. More details can be found here, along with a video below.
These are just three gadgets, but do yourself a favor, even if you have one alcoholic drink, leave your vehicle behind.
