New 2012 Ferrari 612 successor spotted

Spy shots have been taken of the successor to Ferrari’s current 612; the pictures were taken at a location near the Arctic Circle where the 2012 model was undergoing cold weather testing.

Ferrari’s 612 Scaglietti has been due a major update with the next generation rumoured to be larger in size, available on an all-wheel drive platform and be fitted with Ferrari’s new hybrid system HY-KERS.

The test model showed a longer wheelbase, redesigned frt. and rear bumpers with the addition of a large bulge in the bonnet. Expected to have an Enzo-derived V12, it should produce around 530 horsepower with 430 pound-feet of torque. With a dual-clutch seven-speed gearbox lifted from Ferrari’s 599 HY-KERS concept and 458 Italia.

A big chance is that the new generation 612 will have Ferrari’s HY-KERS hybrid system, complete with additional 100 hp from the three-phase electric motor and lithium-ion battery packs. Rumours are that it may also be fitted with all-wheel drive. Head over to AutoBlog for more pictures.
