The news that Netflix went down today, which then came back up hours later was not much of a surprise. However, concerns have been voiced by users who are worried due to recent events. You only have to look on Twitter to see that the online services were down for a few short hours, but in that time users were unable to access the online services.
The reason why these users are feeling a little anxious is due to the fact that Sega was hacked just a few days ago, which seems to be following a pattern. Sony’s PSN service was down for weeks due to being hacked, and now we have to wonder who will be next. We put so much faith into these services — so have we now put too much into them?
Netflix were quick to respond to the outage, and left a message on the website, which read, “We are sorry, the Netflix website and the ability to instantly watch movies are both temporarily unavailable.” They said that they have their engineers working on the issue, and aims to resolve the problem soon — which as we know they did.
IBT makes a point about how Netflix accused users of overreacting to the issue, and then taking to Twitter to share in their anger. We have to agree with them on this one, because from time-to-time things like this happen. However, we are all to blame for this; how many times have you lost your Internet connection for a couple of minutes, only to start ranting about this not being acceptable?
The Internet is a funny thing, as things like this happen and in most cases it is just due to a simple fault. But and a big but at that, you cannot blame anyone for being jumpy nowadays, especially with the constant threat of being hacked.
That is not the only concern that users have voiced, the recent pulling of Sony Pictures Entertainment movies from the Netflix service has not gone down well either. This news flowed out on Friday and was a complete surprise to Netflix users. We just like to remind you that this is just for the online service and not for those who have their DVDs mailed to them. A quick and easy way to tell if there are in current issues with Netflix, such as being down, then Down Right Now will give you its current status, which as we know is currently “UP.”
