Netflix UK launch nears as PS3s get app

Last October we told you that Netflix were planning on expanding their service away from the US early this year. The company has been offering its service to US consumers since 2007, and promised to launch a similar service in the UK and Ireland before a possible further push into other parts of Europe. Now we can tell you that the Netflix UK launch nears as PS3s start to get the Netflix app.

The popular service allows subscribers to stream thousands of movies and TV shows, and consumers who pay a monthly fee have unlimited access to the content that is downloaded via a broadband connection.

According to an article over at CVG the Netflix application is a 13MB download, but for the time being users have no access to the service. They can always sign up to receive a message once the service does go live.

The new offering will go up against Lovefilm that is provided by Amazon in the country. Back in December it was announced that the company had agreed a deal with the BBC to provide top shows from the channel, and they have also revealed agreements with MGM, Miramax, and Lionsgate UK.

The company will be revealing further details about the UK service nearer to the launch, which will include price plans, supported devices, and content. In the US subscribers can use a whole host of products to receive Netflix content, which includes the likes of the Xbox 360, PCs, Wii, PS3, and even the 3DS.

Will you be signing up for Netflix once it is launched?
