Netflix PS3 App: Disc-Free Release Date, 1080i Streaming, New Design

We have some good news for those of you who use Netflix on their Sony PlayStation 3 consoles, as Netflix have announced that the disc-free version of the app will be coming on October 18 aswell as 1080i resolution streaming and 5.1-channel surround audio.

This will be especially good news for US users, who up until now had to use a CD to access the application software. Netflix users also have the added bonus of some content being streamed in 1080i resolution while everyone else will be stuck with 720p stereo.

Netflix have partnered with Dolby to bring 5.1-channel surround to bring specialised audio enhancement to the app using Dolby Digital Plus — also used by the VUDU HDX streaming service.

Netflix have released a PR video that you can view below, showing the new design, and how to access the new disc-free service.

So, Netflix users, are you happy that you will not have to use that pesky disc everytime you want to stream some content on your PS3?
