If you are a commuter in Mumbai today, then chances are you had a tough journey to work this morning, along with getting around in general. This is due to today’s Swabhiman Union strike that affected taxi and auto-rickshaw drivers. The bad news is, the strike will go on until 5PM later today, June 15, 2015, and so this has put huge demand on buses.
With 18,000 auto rickshaws and 12,000 taxis off the road in Mumbai, Bombay, it is left to other public transport offerings to take the slack, such as BEST buses. However, this service will also come under a lot of strain, so you need to plan your journey.
One way in which you can do this is by using the Mumbai BEST Bus Route Timings app, which you can download from the Google Play Store. This app was updated around a month ago to include more routes and real time tracking based on user reports. We can only assume that more people will be using this app today in order to plan their journey.
The app offers live times of each bus route, which will no doubt be affected throughout the day because of the current strike. You will be able to learn when the next bus will arrive at your stop, which helps to reduce your waiting time.
Just remember, that BEST bus times will be slower today, although we do hope to see things getting back to normal once the Swabhiman Union strike ends later today.
