MSI GX740 Gaming Laptop: Price, Availability and Specs

MSI have recently contacted us regarding their latest gaming laptop offering, this is the MSI GX740 and from what we can see it combines a pretty affordable price with a pretty decent hardware specification.

The first thing you will notice is a very desirable red and black design, this is combined with an Intel Core i5 processor (2.26GHz), Intel’s HM55 chipset, up to 4GB of DDR3 1066MHz RAM and ATI Radeon HD5870 graphics with 1GB of GDDR5. There is also a wide choice of 2.5 inch SATA hardrives to choose from, from 250GB to 500GB.

As standard you get a 2.0 megapixel webcam, Ethernet, WiFi b/g/n, 3 USB 2.0 ports, VGA-out, HDMI-out and an Express card slot, you can see a full specification breakdown here.

As is the case with most Windows-based laptops these days it runs Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, which should look goof in it’s 17 inch TFT-LCD display.

The MSI GX740 is priced at $1,399.99, however I am sure this will increase dramatically if you choose a Blu-ray optical drive, 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hardrive. In terms of availability it should be offered by both Amazon and Newegg, however at the time of this post Amazon’s listing was “currently unavailable”.

If the Core i5 model isn’t fast enough for you there is also a Core i7-based variant, this particular model sports the Intel Core i7-720QM processor, you can find out more about this here, it currently has a price of $1,499.99, in my opinion it is well worth spending an extra $100 on.
