Mozilla Fix Firefox Crashing Problems: Skype Add-On Blocked

Mozilla has recently revealed that they have had to ban Skype’s Firefox Add-On; this is because it was causing slow page-loading times and over 40,000 browser crashes a week.

The problem was very widespread as the extension automatically installed itself when people install the latest version of Skype on their PCs, I experienced this first-hand roughly 1 week ago, however didn’t realize how widespread the problem was, it is thought that Google Chrome users may also be experiencing similar issues, however this is unconfirmed.

According to Cnet, Mozilla and Skype are working together to ensure that there are no other compatibility issues, apparently downloading the latest Skype client will resolve most of the known problems.

The Add-On highlights phone numbers on websites to make it easier for users to call them using Skype, to be honest I very much doubt that this is a feature that all Skype users take advantage of, therefore it may well be worth uninstalling it (go to tools, add-ons).

We would love to hear from you if you experienced the same problem, therefore feel free to let us know in the comments section below. Did downloading the latest Skype client fix the problems for you?
