Motorola Xoom: Root it and Still Get 4G LTE Upgrade

We have some additional information for those of you with a Motorola Xoom tablet in relation to the upcoming free 4G LTE upgrade, and it’s good news. Motorola has now confirmed that they’ll be performing the upgrade on all Xoom tablets, even if they are unlocked.

A forum post by Motorola’s Forum manager has confirmed the news that future rooted Motorola Xoom owners have been dying to hear. Even if your tablet’s OS has been tweaked to allow it to operate on any carrier, you’ll be pleased to know that Motorola will still attempt the free 4G LTE upgrade on your device, as reported from Engadget.

However, Motorola urges these users to send their Xoom into the company with the original factory settings in tact, i.e the Xoom still locked to Verizon. Failing that though, Motorola will still install the 4G LTE Modem on your device, so users can update their tablet via their own means.

It’s very refreshing to see Motorola react in this way, as they could have easily said Xoom tablets without the original settings wouldn’t be getting the 4G LTE upgrade – end of story. But we’re pleased to say that this isn’t the case and Motorola has gained a few extra brownie points in our books.

What are your thoughts about this? Were you planning to get your Xoom rooted or not? You can read the forum post from Motorola here for the official word.
