Motorola Xoom: Free 4G LTE Upgrade – Verizon Information

When Verizon announced the official pricing for the Motorola Xoom tablet earlier this week, many of you took a particular interest to the section which informed you that the device would also be receiving a free, yes free upgrade to Big Red’s 4G LTE service later on in the year.

Well, you’ll be pleased to know that we now have some more information on that for you, courtesy of Droid-Life who have managed to get their hands on an official Verizon document which details the process.

It turns out, that Xoom owners will have to send their devices to Verizon for around 6 days, in which it will then be equipped with the 4G radios needed to get 4G LTE speeds up and running on the Xoom. The good thing here, is that Verizon will take care of all shipping and handling charges, so you’ll basically just have to prepare yourselves for six days without your Xoom.

Here’s another key bit of information for you. The document confirms that 4G LTE upgrades will commence 90 days after the Xoom launches, which means that you should expect this to happen sometime during May. Until then, sit back and enjoy 3G connectivity until it’s time to upgrade.

You can check out full information, and the latest updates from Verizon regarding the 4G LTE upgrade via this link. It’s down at the moment, but this is the page you’ll need to bookmark once it’s live – so keep checking it.

What are your thoughts on the upgrade process? Do you think Verizon has handled it in the best way possible, or are there areas in which you’re concerned about? As long as you back up your information before sending it in to Verizon, we don’t think you have anything to worry about here.
