Motorola Televation: cable TV live streaming for mobile devices

The Cable Show 2011 is finally underway in the US. It is the largest cable and telecommunications convention that takes place every year in the US. Today we have news of Motorola’s latest products which were showcased today at the trade show.

The device is capable of turning your regular cable TV a live stream with this Live Streaming Device called Televation. It does this by translating the codes for the broadcasts from MPEG-2 TV into MPEG-4 IP streams.

This process then allows devices such as an iPhone or iPad to let the user view TV through them providing they are on the same local network. The quality of the viewing depends on the quality of the device you are using.

The company has decided this process and use of device eliminates any legal issues as the TV broadcasts that already exist are being used. EchoStar/Sling is working on a similar device and has been trying to make an entrance in the cable box market for years.
