Motorola Droid: Android 2.2 Froyo Update before Droid X

We have some interesting news to bring you now, and pretty exciting news if you are a Motorola Droid owner. A leaked Verizon Wireless document has indicated that the original Droid will be receiving the update to Android 2.2 Froyo before the upcoming Droid X handset.

As reported from BGR, the memo states that the Droid is in line to receive Android 2.2 and Flash 10.1 at the end of July.

However, as we pointed out yesterday, those of you planning to purchase the new Droid X on Verizon, will have to wait until late August to get the Froyo update and Adobe’s latest Flash Player.

The document looks pretty legit to us, so we’re guessing there will be a lot of happy Droid owners after reading this. We’ll let you know if we hear anything else regarding dates for both handsets.

Are you planning to get the Droid X? If so, what are your thoughts on this?

I spoke with a verizon rep last night (7/1/2010)..I purchased my Moto Droid in Dec2009 full price….The rep said and double checked with his 2 supervisors that my Droid will NEVER receive any update to the 2.2 version. Only phones manufactored after March 2010 will be eligilble for 2.2 software. All I can say…I hear a BOYCOTT…..

I have been having problems with my moto droid ever since I got it, sound muffled to callers and responsive scrern while talking. Verizon was going to let me switch to a different phone. I told them how much I everything else about the phone except for actually using it as a phone. Well I read up on the 2.2 update and it is supposedly supposed to fix my problems. Well I then called verizon back this past Friday, June 25th, and the rep told me he just was informed that the 2.2 would start rolling out June 28th. No… Read more »
