The Motorola Droid 3 release is now said to be imminent at Best Buy, so this is now the ideal time to have a roundup of what we know so far. First things first though and that is the release date, the handset is expected to hit stores on July 14th. We have to inform you that this has not been mad official just yet.
The leak was thanks to a source that tipped Droid Attic off. Although we are unable to verify this, we cannot see that this news would be wrong. Now most Motorola customers will be getting excited about now, but we cannot help thinking that the design is now looking a little dated. The style still looks very much like the original Droid launched way back in October 2009.
However, things have certainly changed a lot inside, because instead of that single-core OMAP 3430 processor the new handset is packing an updated dual-core CPU from Texas Instruments. Other improvements include: 4-inch display, 1080P video recording, Android 2.3 Gingerbread and that’s just for starters.
The Droid 3 will be known outside the U.S. as the Milestone 3 and has already had release confirmation in China. It was always obvious that Motorola was going with that name, as this is just keeping with past versions of the world model. Now we cannot say for certain, but we believe that the Droid Bionic will be a more wanted handset due to a number of reason, but we can tell you that Motorola is now starting to put pressure on HTC with these two new devices.
If you had the choice, which would you rather have, the Droid Bionic or the Droid 3? You can vote in our recent poll here. However, we cannot help that think that the low benchmark results have had an effect on the results. The reason for this is because Motorola has not put a sufficient amount of RAM inside, which as you know will cause an issue in a number of key areas.
Now we just cannot understand why only 512MB was used, especially when rivals are sticking near the 1GB mark these days? Motorola has to have its reason, but for the life of us we cannot think why? There seems to be so many things conspiring against the Droid 3, we just hope that there are still a few loyal fans out there that will not kick it while it is down?
