Motorola Droid 2 Release Date: Verizon August 12?

Verizon certainly has a few nice phones in its arsenal now, but we still await the release of the Motorola Droid 2. Until now we only knew that it would be some time in August, but it looks as though we have a release date, August 12 — is this not the same day that RIM release the BlackBerry Torch.

If we are to believe this rumor, then AT&T and Verizon will be dueling each other yet again — question is, who will win? I am not a betting man, but if I were I would out my money on Verizon, as the first Droid proved very popular.

Techtree News Staff reported the rumored release date, after they spotted an internal Verizon slide. Once we know more we will keep you updated. The Droid 2 is the successor to the original Droid handset by Motorola and was the most popular Android smartphone to date.

The Droid 2 is rumored to offer a 3-7-inch screen – so smaller than the Droid X — and will come with Android 2.1, with an update to 2.2 Froyo coming later this year. Which of the two would you choose, Droid 2 or BlackBerry Storm?
