Just when you were getting settled playing as new DLC character Kenshi, we have a real treat now and a trip down memory lane for Mortal Kombat fans. NetherRealm Studios has just revealed the release date and debut trailer for new character Rain, and it’s something you do not want to miss out on.
NetherRealm Studios knew exactly what they were doing when they left Rain out of the original MK9 roster, as after watching his trailer, we can definitely tell you that he is well worth waiting for.
Bringing his trademark roundhouse kick from UMK3 where he kicks the opponent off the screen, he brings with him a new set of moves which will probably see Rain confirmed as one of the most popular MK9 fighters on the list – without a doubt. The trailer reveals a new revamped bubble move which once again will be controllable by the player. His lightning move is back as well and after watching the trailer, you’ll see that his combo possibilities are nothing short of mouthwatering, although at the same time some of you may be worrying that this guy is going to be overpowered.
He is definitely a character in the same type of mould as Ermac, what with his launcher moves, but this will be irrelevant to those of you who played as him in the old Mortal Kombat games as Rain was a firm fan favorite. His X-Ray move and brief glimpses of fatalities can also be seen in the trailer and it looks like players are going to have a lot of fun using him – we definitely will.
We think NetherRealm Studios has played a very smart move in revealing Rain as one of the last DLC characters after Scarlet and Kenshi, as judging by their epic trailer, everyone is going to rush and buy him the moment he comes out. We can tell you that the magic date for his release is July 19th, and we expect Rain to be priced at $5 or 400 Microsoft points just the same as Kenshi and Skarlet. Don’t forget that fans can still look forward to at least one more DLC character reveal, although NetherRealm Studios are remaining very quiet as to who this character will be – have you found any clues on this yet guys?
Yesterday we wrote an article expressing our disappointment with Capcom with regards to the way they have handled DLC for Marvel Vs Capcom 3. This is highlighted further with NetherRealm Studios willingness to release as much DLC as possible after release, and the key thing here, is that it is reasonably priced and they are also releasing free costumes to keep everyone happy – a perfect formula in our opinion and one which more developers should take note of.
So without further ado, take a look at Rain’s trailer below and let us know what you think about his implementation in Mortal Kombat 9. Are you looking forward to using his moves – do you think there is risk of him becoming overpowered / overused in the game?
