We have criticised the online mode in the past for suffering from constant connectivity issues, but we’re glad to say that it looks like NetherRealm Studios is getting their act together and trying to eliminate the problem from the game entirely.
If you have a PS3 version of the game, which lets face it a lot of you do since it has Kratos, then you’ll most likely be aware that a new patch update for the game went live recently. It is a small update for the game and the download time was next to nothing, but the changes it brings may be the factor which sees Mortal Kombat go on to win several awards later on in the year.
If you head into online mode on the PS3 version after installing the patch, you’ll see that NetherRealm Studios appears to have fixed up the incredibly frustrating issue where online matches would desync as soon as an opponent chooses an alternate costume. We’ve tried this out ourselves and we could definitely notice an improvement, as players could choose alternate costumes with no problems this time.
Obviously, this is pretty huge news for those of you who decided to take a break from the game due to the constant desync issues, as it now means you’ll be able to have a lengthy Mortal Kombat online session, without having to worry about silly issues which ruin the experience.
From what we can gather as well, it does seem as if the online performance of the game has improved following on from the patch as well, something which PS3 gamers are no doubt going to appreciate. The suspect online issues were the only slight issues with what is otherwise a fantastic, not to mention highly addictive fighting game so players now have no reason to stop playing.
Since this patch has only been released for the PS3 at the moment, we expect NetherRealm Studios to follow on and release a similar patch update for the Xbox 360 version of the game. Hopefully we’ll get another DLC character trailer soon for the next character who is yet to be unveiled – who do you think it will end up being?
How is online mode for you at the moment folks?
