A few days ago we told you about some retailers in Canada that had begun offering promotions on the BlackBerry PlayBook. So far the tablet PC has not hit the dizzy heights seen by the iPad with regards to sales. Today we can tell you that more retailers cut the BlackBerry PlayBook price, but it’s not a fire sale though.
We reported before the RIM had been left with more inventory of the device than they would have wanted, and the company said they would work with retailers to address the problem. Now the offers are spreading with more retailers offering discounts on the device. BGR are reporting that Best Buy in the US is offering the same deals as its Canada counterpart.
The device pricing begins at $399.99 for the 16GB version, and goes up to $599.99 for the 64GB model. Consumers picking one up in store will also get a complimentary Best Buy gift card with the value of $100. Staples have also cut the price and are offering a mail rebate. Following our last post about the prices of the tablet PC we received an email with a statement from RIM regarding the matter.
It stated that although there were offers for the PlayBook the official retail price had not changed. But the company was going to work with retailers to offer consumers “instant rebates and gift cards”. These promotions are expected to “continue into the holiday season”. The software upgrade was also confirmed by the manufacturer to be available in the “upcoming months.”
We have been contacted by some readers who have taken advantage of the price offers, and have stated they are more than happy with their purchase. We could see the BlackBerry PlayBook still proving to be a big success yet as more consumers give the device a try.
Are you thinking of getting the PlayBook following the retailer’s offers for the device?
