Mob of the Dead zombies gameplay tease lacks Tony Soprano

We have some more Mob of the Dead information for you now, as Treyarch has finally officially confirmed Uprising as the next DLC Map Pack for Black Ops 2. A debut trailer has been released, giving a very brief gameplay tease of Mob of the Dead zombies – the next installment to release after Die Rise.

It also appears that Treyarch are accustomed to follow one or two friendly patterns. Call of The Dead on the first Black Ops game featured four celebrities as playable characters, in a first for the series. Sarah Michelle Gellar, Danny Trejo, Michael Rooker and Freddy Krueger himself, Robert Englund all featured in this mode and now we can confirm that Treyarch are bringing four new celebrities into the mix as well for Mob of the Dead.

If you watch the trailer above, you’ll see Treyarch reveal that the new setting for Mob of the Dead will be the infamous Alcatraz prison. Even more interesting, is that Treyarch are putting in four celebrities in a ‘mobster’ theme and they are Michael Madsen, Joe Pantoliano, Ray Liotta and Chazz Palminteri.

You may be familiar with the actors if you have watched the likes of Reservoir Dogs, Goodfellas, The Usual Suspects and The Matrix. Madsen aside, the three other actors have Italian backgrounds and with the mobster setting for the game, we can’t help but think how amazing it would have been, if Treyarch had managed to get James Gandolfini in the game – aka Tony Soprano himself.

He would seem the perfect addition to the mobster format of Mob of the Dead to us, but it looks like a dream that isn’t going to happen any time soon. What will be included though is a brand new gameplay feature called Purgatory, which allows fallen victims to come back to life and complete certain ‘objectives’.

Treyarch hasn’t revealed in detail what these are though, so we’ll have to wait closer to the release date of April 16 to find out more. It’s worth noting that Call of The Dead had George Romero as a zombie boss, so will Treyarch be adding another ‘mobster’ celebrity into the game as another hidden boss perhaps?

Imagine if someone like Robert De Niro or Al Pacino turned up in the game as one of the Alcatraz zombies – that would be an enjoyable experience to say the least. As always, this new content will be releasing on Xbox Live first. Watch the very brief gameplay above and let us know your initial thoughts and ideas on Mob of the Dead.
