When it comes to Britain and affordable sports cars, the two don’t usually go together very well, but if the Mini Superleggera Vision gets off the ground, then this could be a rival to the Mazda MX-5 Miata. Mini may be owned by BMW, but they are still thought of as a British brand, much like Jaguar and Land Rover.
Mini has always been thought of as a small, fun car, although they have had a few sporty models over the years. However, they were never intended to compete with the likes of the ever-popular MX-5, and so it will be an interesting prospect to see.
You know that the Mini Superleggera Vision is a true small, sports car because it only has two seats and as you can see in the video, it is a marriage of Britishness and Italian design flare, we especially like the rear light cluster, as each side represents the Union Jack.
How does the Mini Superleggera Vision stand out against the Mazda MX-5 Miata? First and foremost this is a classic roadster, it is also said to be very agile, and finally its electric drivetrain makes it more unique, something that is important to help it stand out in a saturated market.
Mini has been a little coy on the Superleggera Vision features, such as some of its other mechanicals, which makes us wonder if this will ever make it to production, or it is just a way of showing they have the ability to think outside the box?
There will no doubt be some of you who believe that this is nothing more than a vehicle designed by someone who has spent too much time watching the movie cars, and that Mazda need not worry, but we think its retro looks that pays homage to the Austin-Healey Sprite and MG Midgets is a thing of beauty, and can give the MX-5 Miata something to worry about, but would you agree?
