Minecraft 1.8 PC update, PS4, Xbox One MIA

While Mojang continues to provide Minecraft PC users with steady updates for the popular building sim, we can see that the first Minecraft 1.8 update preparation has begun with the Minecraft Snapshot 14w02c.

Unfortunately though, console versions of Minecraft are still lagging behind and it looks like we are still a long way from the highly anticipated Minecraft PS4 and Xbox One release dates.

An update posted by console developers 4J Studios reveals that their priority at the moment is to fix the existing bugs in the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Minecraft. Only after this is done will they then move on to other platforms – ie the next-gen ports.

While this is obviously disappointing after the initial announcement excitement, everyone will agree in saying that the PS4 and Xbox One versions should not be rushed just for the sake of meeting a deadline.

In the meantime, PC players continue to get preferential treatment. Mojang has confirmed that the first Minecraft 1.8 snapshot has arrived with 14w02c, which specifically provides players with two key update phases – Survival gameplay and improvements, followed by new fancy abilities for adventure maps.

You can read all about it over on Mojang’s website here, including confirmation of 3 new stone types and updated villager trading.

How badly do you want to see the PS4 and Xbox One editions of Minecraft? Are you willing to wait as long as it takes for the developers to get it right, without bugs?
