Microsoft’s Chromecast alternative, pre-order options

When we first learned that Microsoft was to release a Chromecast alternative dongle, we assumed it was going to be called Miracast, but instead the company went for Wireless Display Adapter. This is not the most thought out name, but it’s straight to the point.

It’s hard to understand just how Microsoft will have a success with this dongle, as it is limited to just supporting Miracast-enabled devices, one such device is the Windows 8.1 PCs and tablets.

Microsoft Wireless Adapter pre-order options

Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter price in the US – Consumers will have to part with $59.95, which is a lot of money compared to Chromecast, as this costs just $35. There are currently two alternative pre-order options for you, Microsoft direct, or Best Buy.

One positive is that it is not limited by compatible apps, as it can be used to mirror any content, but only on supported devices. We can tell you that this dongle does support Android devices, but only those that play nice with Miracast.

Will the Wireless Display Adapter prove a success for Microsoft, or will it be another fail?
