Microsoft Surface 3 production looms, mini stays elusive

When Microsoft announced the release of the Surface Pro 3 it was only a matter of time before the Surface 3 would follow, and we have new information that suggests we will not have too long to wait. There is still no news as to the Surface mini, and considering the mixed reports we have no clue as to whether it will happen soon or not.

According to the latest buzz the Windows RT Surface 2 successor could enter production next month, with a planned release date sometime in October. If this is the case, then the new Surface 3 will be released during the same month as the 2014 iPad Air and mini.

We know that these are very different devices, but some consumers still see these as rival tablets, and as such do consider each of these before committing to one.

Come October it would be a year since the Surface 2 was released, and so it isn’t that much of a stretch to think Micrsoft would follow the same release cycle.

While the Microsoft Surface 3 specs remain elusive, the Windows RT tablet is expected to be slimmer than the current version, and as such should also be lighter, although this would depend on the battery used.

Do you still think there is a market for the Windows RT tablet, or do you think Microsoft will finally discontinue this model and put its focus into the Pro range, as well as the much-anticipated mini version?

This is all based on an assumption from DigiTimes, and so we will just have to watch this space seeing as though the website has a mixed track record with this sort of stuff.
