Microsoft Office 2010, SP1 Supports Google Chrome

Microsoft are to make their Office 2010 SP1 available to download as it normally would except this time, for the first time it will support Google Chrome. The first service pack for Office 2010 will use SharePoint 2010 to run Chrome’s online applications.

The service pack was first said to be expected during this summer but now it seems the release is to be June 28th as Microsoft always launch updates that do not involve security on the fourth Tuesday of each month.

Once the initial manual download is complete, future updates for the package will be automatically searched for and downloaded. This won’t happen until about three months after however. As well as the Chrome support, Office 2010 SP1 will also include patches of both security and hotfix plus various other features and improvements, which as of yet remain unannounced.

According to the article at ComputerWorld, Microsoft refused to give answers to questions about the timing of the Chrome support, including whether it was due to technical reasons. You can read more about the support in the full article by clicking the link above.
