Microsoft Kin One and Kin Two: Release and Specs

You have to feel sorry for Microsoft a little, they had hoped for their Pink Project event to be a huge deal — but last weeks Apple iPhone OS 4.0 preview spoilt everything. Anyway, the event has already happened and we now have two new social networking handsets, the Kin One and Kin Two.

We already know that both handsets will be available on Verizon in May in the U.S. and on Vodafone in Europe. Specs for the Kin 1 are a 4G storage, full QWERTY keyboard, QVGA display, 5-megapixel camera with LED flash and much more.

The Kin 2 also offers an 8-megapixel camera, HVGA display, landscape QWERTY slide and 8GB of internal storage. Both handsets will run a custom version of Windows Phone 7, with its own unique interface. Engadget has been informed that the custom browser will be based on the Zune browser.

The UI that we mentioned above has been designed for the younger market that spends most of their time on social network sites so offers basic blocky text. We wonder how well Microsoft will do with these two handsets? We are certain that Apple and Google have nothing to fear.
