We told you recently that Mozilla were already preparing their next version of Firefox, and the trend of quick turnarounds of web browsers looks set to continue with the news that Microsoft has released a preview of IE10.
Dean Wilson of the Inquirer is reporting that this preview has full hardware acceleration as well as multi-column, flexible box and grid layouts, and CSS3 features. Even though Microsoft only recently released IE9, the company will be looking to try and win back users from the likes of Google and Mozilla.
They are only a short time into the development of their next browser, but Microsoft is already looking to developers to aid in the process. Corporate VP of Internet Explorer Dean Hachamovitch has given a preview of some the features of what users can expect with IE10.
There will be gradient backgrounds, which mean standard markup can be used to create backgrounds of gradiating color. Before this required the loading of pre-designed images. One feature which was showcased and impressed was full hardware acceleration.
Microsoft demonstrated this with a HTML5 display of fish swimming in a bowl, when this was compared with Google Chrome, IE10 was much faster. IE9 is arguably Microsoft’s best browser to date, but it has a fight on its hands to claw back users from its competitors.
Do you think Microsoft can challenge the likes of Google with their web browser?
