Microsoft drops Surface Pro midnight launch

With the Surface Pro ready to hit online and brick and mortar stores tomorrow, Microsoft had planned to hold a midnight launch later today in New York. However, they have now had to drop the launch event because of poor weather conditions, which is a huge blow for Microsoft because they wanted to make a huge deal with their latest device.

Up to a foot of snow is predicted to land on New York because the snowstorm, so if you had plans to head down to the Best Buy, in Union Square, Manhattan for the Microsoft Surface Pro midnight launch, then at least you can now stay inside and keep nice and warm. Although we have to point out that this was an invite only event.

The announcement on Twitter to cancel the event would have not been an easy decision to make because of the importance of the Surface Pro, but they didn’t really have a choice. We’re not certain if the Surface Pro will be available to buy on the Microsoft Store website from midnight, although it’s highly likely that it will be sometime early Saturday morning.

Surface Pro NYC event cancelled

Having looked to see if any retailers were holding a midnight event of their own ahead of the Surface Pro release, it seems as though the NYC event was the only one. We’d love to know if a local store near you would be opening early allowing you to take possession of the Surface Pro, please comment on this below.

Microsoft needs the Pro version of their Surface device to be a success, as the RT model has not gone as well as planned. There have been several concerns in regards to the Pro, but Microsoft has been vocal about answering those concerns, as well as talking about future Surface Pro accessories.
