MGS 5 pushed limits inspired by Breaking Bad

Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes is not far from launch and the game’s creator, Hideo Kojima has been reflecting on the development process. Kojima has claimed that MGS 5 has been pushed to its limits in a way which TV show Breaking Bad was, acting as inspiration for their game.

Kojima has used this comparison as a way of shielding the game’s darker moments from controversy. Breaking Bad has enjoyed immense success and anyone who watches it will know that it does feature unique scenes which other TV shows simply do not. The show is full of hard drug manufacturing and use, extreme violence, swearing, betrayal and deception, but these combined elements are what makes Breaking Bad so good.

Back to Ground Zeroes and Kojima has insisted that this approach had to be taken in order to achieve what they set out to. If MGS 5 did not cross the line, then the game would not be able to express itself in the way that the team intended. Kojima said that when he watches Breaking Bad they take the show to the very limit and push boundaries, and that is what Ground Zeroes had to do.

You can read more of what Hideo Kojima the MGS 5 creator had to say be visiting CVG, yesterday we heard him expressing his desire for The Phantom Pain to launch on PC. Are you pleased that Breaking Bad has been used as a form of inspiration for Ground Zeroes, this will surely make it a better game?
