Mercedes C-Class recall speculation in 2013 following complaints

The NHTSA certainly has been very busy of late, and if they think they have time for a rest, then they can think again. We say this because the U.S. safety regulators have to investigate complaints in regards to the Mercedes C-Class, because there is a chance that the rear lights could catch on fire.

With this in mind, there is now speculation of a Mercedes C-Class recall following the news of this investigation that started on July 11, 2013. It will be the 2008 and 2009 Mercedes C-Class that will be investigated by the NHTSA.

We’re told that there have been a total of 21 complaints by owners of these affected vehicles; there are a few issue, all of which are to do with the lights. There are some cases where the brake lights or the turn signals are very dim or in some cases do not work at all. However, in a few circumstances there has been a smell of burning or melting of wires.

It’s the burning smell that has us worried the most, because there could be a risk of fire, and this is sure to be why the NHTSA has now decided to act. Thankfully, there have not been any reports of injury, but there’s always the fear that something terrible could happen. However, we always have to remember that if the rear lights fail, then this could cause you to be rear-ended.

It’s not known how long this investigation will take, but we’ve seen in the past that these things can take at least a year, which is not ideal for those who are now worried that their 2008 and 2009 Mercedes C-Class could have the same issue.
