McLaren P13 render reveals Porsche 911 Turbo rival price

McLaren is trying to emulate Ferrari in the way that they are not only a successful F1 racing team — not this year — but also proving a force to be reckoned with in the road sports car market. Over the past few years we have seen some great models appear, and the MP4-12C and P1 are fine examples of this.

However, McLaren know they need to offer more variety to cater for those of us with different budgets, and so the Woking, England based company is working on the P13. What we like about this is how the McLaren P13 price of £120,000 puts it in Porsche 911 territory.

A new render of the McLaren P13 has been created and shows us a vision of what the P13 will look like, even though we have already seen a heavily disguised version of the car back in July. While we do like the exterior design from what we have seen so far, we are not convinced with its name, as there does not seem to be any pattern to McLaren’s vehicle monikers.

McLaren understand that in order to rival the likes of Porsche, Ferrari and even Audi with its R8, they need an entry-point sports car, and so this is where the P13 comes in. Even though the expected price of £120,000 seems a bit expensive, it isn’t when you think you will have a car with Formula One technology, all for a fraction of the price as the P1.

Early reports of the McLaren P13 concept shows promising specs and exterior features, with the latter having a few P1 design flares. These will include similar wraparound headlights and aggressive bonnet vents.

The weight of the McLaren P13 will be less than the 12C, which is partly thanks to its shorter wheelbase. More importantly it will weigh less than its main rival, the Porsche 911 Turbo. As for performance, we expect McLaren to go with its 3.8-litre V8 turbo, although they will detune it to produce 450 horsepower, which is still nothing to be sniffed at.

Let us hope that McLaren allows the P13 to be more of a driver’s car, unlike the 12C. This will be very important because we all know how much fun the 911 Turbo is to drive.
