MAZDA3 SKYACTIV-D 1.5 UK option from December 1

Mazda is to release a new option for its MAZDA3 in the UK from December 1st, 2015, which is this coming Tuesday. The MAZDA3 SKYACTIV-D 1.5 uses the 1.5-litre 105ps diesel engine and will be available for the hatchback and Fastback models. This engine is said to be more refined, and so is not only smooth, but has punchy performance also.

However, what is more impressive is its CO2 emissions and its combined fuel economy, as these are 99g/km74.3mpg respectively. Prices for this new engine option starts at £18,895 on-the-road, and will be an available option for the SE, SE Nav, SE-L, SE-L Nav and Sport Nav variants.

MAZDA3 SKYACTIV-D 1.5 UK variant

The Japanese carmaker says they designed the new MAZDA3 SKYACTIV-D 1.5 engine to appeal to private and fleet buyers, and also comes with a 6-speed gearbox, which is said to help its fuel-economy. There was a fear that the VW scandal would cause an issue for diesel sales in the UK, but this does not seem to be the case.

As for the performance of this new engine option, it will go from a standstill to 62 miles per hour in 11 seconds, which is not too bad for and engine of this size, especially being an ultra-clean diesel. It is also worth mention that it delivers 270Nm of torque.

It was always obvious that Mazda was going to produce a smaller version of the SKYACTIV-D 2.2, seeing as though this engine has proven so popular in its larger models.

Do you think this new engine option will help deliver the sort of enhancement that Mazda believes it will bring to their fleet?
