Mario Kart 8 Wii U release date update from newsletter

Mario Kart 8 is definitely one of the most anticipated Wii U games ever, but unfortunately we had the confirmation during E3 from Nintendo that the game would release in 2014, not at the end of the year as some had expected. Nintendo previously only committed to a ‘Spring 2014’ release for the game, but now we’re pleased to bring you a fresh update regarding the official Mario Kart 8 release date.

If you grew up playing Mario Kart on the SNES, you’ll know that Nintendo has been trying to emulate the magic of that game year on year. Some will say they have succeeded others won’t, but there’s no denying that Mario Kart 8 for the Wii U looks fantastic on first impressions alone.

This will be the first Mario Kart game to be released on the new Wii U hardware, so it goes without saying that Nintendo has a lot of pressure on their shoulders to deliver a game that at least lives up to the good reputation that Mario Kart for the Wii had. If you watched the debut trailer for Mario Kart 8, you would have seen some brand new gameplay features included, such as the ability to drive upside down, and a bigger emphasis on wall driving than we have seen in previous games.

Back to the main point though, as Nintendo has inadvertently revealed that Mario Kart 8 will have a release date in April next year. As mentioned above, we previously only knew that the game would be out in Spring, so at least this helps narrow down a specific month for you to get excited about.

Above you’ll see a screenshot of the recent Nintendo Europe letter, which confirms that the game will be out sometime in April – thanks to Twitter user DeSero for the spot. Let us know how high this game is, on your priority list. Will you definitely pick this up, or wait for the likes of Zelda instead?
