Mario Kart 8 is the eagerly awaited Nintendo Wii U title making it the eleventh instalment in the franchise and as the number suggests it’s the eighth in the series. Combining the different aspects of the Wii version and more recently Mario Kart 7’s new anti-gravity racing, we can see why gamers are looking forward to this next iteration.
Based on the familiar style of using characters from the Mario universe to race in go-karts plenty of previous features will also be apparent like the 12-player racing from Mario Kart Wii, motorbikes, underwater racing and hangliders. In addition, this version involves HD visuals and attention has been paid to the anti-gravity sections.
Compatible with the Wii U GamePad, Wii U Pro Controller, Wii Wheel, Wii Remote and Nunchuk this title runs at 60 frames per second and that includes two players, although we understand Nintendo is aiming to push it to four.
Those of you intending to get the Mario Kart 8 Limited Edition pack will be pleased to know collectable merchandise is also on offer with the addition of a new blue spikey tortoise shell toy. The blue shell extra can be seen in the brief trailer for the Wii U pack below, while the scheduled release of Mario Kart 8 on the Nintendo Wii U is on the 30th May this year.
It might still be sometime until its release but it is worth contemplating how this game could make all the difference when it comes to Wii U sales. We recently spoke about the upcoming game and suggested that Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U could be a system seller, especially since Nintendo has been showing concern about their current financial state.
With that in mind, we are intrigued to know whether Mario Kart 8 is one of the main games you have been waiting for, and will be getting this at the end of May?
