We told you a while ago that Japanese gamers had seemingly picked up an exclusive piece of Mario Kart 8 DLC. This was the Mercedes GLA-class skin which was initially exclusive to the country.
However, we are now pleased to confirm the good news that this same piece of DLC will be coming to Europe as add-on content. Furthermore, the Japanese release was free at no extra cost so we fully expect the same for Mario Kart 8 players in the UK and other parts of Europe too.
The news has been confirmed by Nintendo Europe in the Tweet below, revealing that it will be available for the game sometime this Summer – although no set release date unfortunately.

We are still waiting for confirmation on the Mercedes DLC for Mario Kart 8 in the US as well. Nothing on it yet, but we assume it is on the way to avoid mass anger if it remains exclusive to Europe.
As we’ve noticed though, some gamers believe that this is a bad move bringing Mercedes over to Mario Kart 8. Take a look at the replies that Nintendo Europe received when revealing the news in the Tweet – a mixed reception to say the least.
We actually think it’s a cool idea and there’s no denying that it will be somewhat strange seeing a Mercedes-branded kart on a Mario game. Could it be the start of something interesting or worrying for the Mario Kart franchise with other branded vehicles – from Audi, Honda, Toyota perhaps?
