The popular Google Maps application may well be included in every Android-based smartphone on the market these days, but it doesn’t necessarily stop people looking for an alternative. One Google Maps alternative we’d like to mention is the recently released MapQuest for Android.
As Eric M. Zeman over on the phonescoop.com website recently reported, the new MapQuest 1.0.0 beta software — which is now free to download from the Android Market – offers many impressive features such as voice search and real-time traffic with auto re-route.
According to Alan Henry over at appscout.com (via DownloadSquad), the MapQuest application may not have the features and tools that can be found within Google Maps, but it does include great features that will most definitely make it a solid competitor for the Google Maps app.
The MapQuest app — which provides users with comprehensive mapping services such as turn-by-turn driving directions — works with the smartphone’s contact list, so users can quickly receive driving directions to their friends’ houses or even businesses and restaurants they’ve previously searched for.
As noted over on the Android Market, the MapQuest app also features voice search, which enables hands-free input, an auto re-route feature that will automatically adjust your route if you just happen to take a wrong turn and Live Traffic Flow/Incidents that updates every 5 minutes.
