In recent years many cell phone users now regularly upgrade their handset around every two years, with some even sooner. There are many users who don’t think twice about upgrading their handset, but when it comes to getting the best value for money from their service provider it’s another matter. This has resulted in many Britons missing out on the best mobile phone deals that are available.
According to an article on Guardian.co.uk a study by Which has found that twenty million Britons have never switched cell phone provider. It was also found that 5.3 million people had spent less money after switching service provider. 8,001 people were also asked to share their experiences when they did decide to switch mobile provider.
There are many people who are put off switching provider because they thought it would take a long time and be difficult, but of those who actually did switch nine out of ten thought it was an easy process. Just over a quarter of the people switching provider did so for a cheaper mobile tariff, and sixteen percent did so for a better handset. A further fourteen percent decided to choose another cell phone provider for an improved coverage and reception.
The survey found that about 44 percent of UK adults had never changed provider, which compares to 48 percent who have done so in the last two years. Users are advised to shop around as there are many different tariffs available and can save you money.
Users who have a pay monthly contract count the handsets specifications as the most important thing when choosing what to buy, and recommendations from providers and retailers are often ignored. For users on pay-as-you-go the cost of device was most important. The survey also found that almost all of mobile users go into a mobile store instead of using price comparison sites online.
This is despite many sales people in those stores giving consumers the hard sell when it comes to the likes of accessories and insurance. Mobile insurance can often be a waste of money as many people’s home insurance also covers their cell phone.
