Manchester United and Premier League could be on Apple TV

The EPL is probably the most watched football league around the world outside of major tournaments such as the World Cup and Champions League. Now the likes of Manchester United and the Premier League could be on Apple TV.

Currently Sky TV and ESPN have the rights to the live games in the UK, but a new report is suggesting when the next round of bidding begins for these rights, both Apple and Google may make bids to boost their TV platforms.

Three companies certain to bid for the rights include Sky, ESPN, and Al Jazeera who would have the financial clout to rival Rupert Murdoch’s grip on the coverage. Last time round Sky TV paid out £1.6 billion to secure the rights to broadcast live games.

Apple has already begun adding live sports content to its Apple TV set-top-box after it was redesigned back in 2010, which includes access to NHL, MLB, and NBA content. If these rumors are true and Apple was to win some of the live game packages on offer the company could use it to push the rumored iTV device.

There have been rumors for years that Apple was going to enter the TV market, which have intensified in the last few months. Some believe any such device could be released later this year in time for the holiday season rush.

If Apple or Google were to win any of the rights to the Premier League it could mean that many fans would have to go out and purchase new equipment. This could prove decisive in any decision to award the two companies any of the packages on offer, but money talks.

Do you think Apple or Google would bid for the Premier League?
