At the beginning of the month we told you about the iPhone 5 prototype that was lost in a bar, which copied the goings on last year with the iPhone 4. This led Apple to take on new staff in an attempt to stop this sort of incident being repeated. In a new twist we can tell you that the lost iPhone 5 prototype may be on video, as requests are made for CCTV from the bar in question.
The San Francisco Police Department has asked the owners of the Cava 22 bar where the prototype went missing, for permission to view surveillance footage from the night in question. Jose Valle whose family owns the bar as said officers asked to view footage from July 21st and 22nd. According to AppleInsider Valle has attempted to share the video with the police, but have not yet taken it up.
Valle doesn’t think that the video footage will be much help finding out what happened with the missing prototype. There are six cameras located around the Cava 22 bar, but surprisingly they only record images every three minutes. Also certain parts of the bar are poorly lit that could make details of the footage unclear.
Lt. Troy Dangerfield from the department, is saying the request for the CCTV footage is likely to be part of an internal investigation into officers who visited the private residence looking for the lost device. When it was discovered the prototype had been lost Apple tracked the unit to a private residence, and then contacted police to help search for it.
There were some conflicting reports about the Police involvement in the incident, as it was first claimed no police officers were part of the search. But now the SFPD say plainclothes officers did accompany Apple employees to the address and look for the lost iPhone 5 prototype without going inside.
Sergio Calderón who lives at the address claims to have been threatened by the officers, and would not have allowed the search to take place if he knew Apple staff was involved. There was talk that Calderón would be making an official complaint about the incident but nothing has been filed so far.
Do you think the lost prototype will be found or even existed?
