Chevrolet UK — a sister company to Vauxhall – found a rather amusing way to mark the launch of its new Chevrolet Orlando recently, by creating a hand-crafted, life-sized replica of the vehicle made entirely from Play-Doh modeling clay and parking it in London.
According to a recent article by Ray Massey over on the dailymail.co.uk website, the life-sized Chevrolet Orlando replica — which used 1.5 tons of aquamarine Play-Doh from a total of 10,000 pots — was created by a team of 8 model makers, over a period of two weeks.
The replica vehicle, which was seen parked in the bohemian Clerkenwell district of London, certainly caught the attention of commuters and traffic wardens. The car company said that they chose to model it in Play-Doh, because it was recently voted the most-loved toy of yesteryear.
Chevrolet said that the Play-Doh car would be on display at the Lakeside shopping centre in Thurrock for the next week. Les Turton from Chevrolet UK said that he hoped their launch would appeal to the inner-child of all parents, and that the vehicle would become a family favorite.
You can view images of the sculpture over at dailymail.co.uk. The seven-seater Chevrolet Orlando is on sale for £16,395. What do you think of their amusing way of launching a new car? Should more auto companies launch their vehicles this way?
