LG Optimus G2 with next-gen chip to wow CES 2013

We are getting closer to CES 2013 and all eyes are on the event to see what new surprises and mobile powerhouses we’ll see that will kick off the 2013 mobile industry in style. A lot of talk has been on whether the Samsung Galaxy S4 will make an appearance, but one device that appears to be confirmed for the event will come from LG and it could come in form of the Optimus G2. The company has released a teaser video that provides glimpses of their next flagship smartphone and we have heard that the processor featured on the device could end up stealing the show at next week’s event in Las Vegas.

If you watch the short clip below, you’ll see that LG are remaining silent on their next phone, only choosing to show the corner of the device in question and without revealing any initial specs for the device. One of the key words that was mentioned in the clip though was ‘innovation’ and we have since learned that this innovation may come in the form of a cutting edge processor which will likely be the fastest chip seen in a mobile device so far.

The Optimus G2 could be equipped with a Snapdragon Prime Processor, which according to Droid-Life could provide quad-core speeds of 2.0- 2.5Ghz – a seriously fast processor compared to some current handsets today which still only ship with a dual-core processor. We thought that a 2.0Ghz chip inside the Galaxy S4 would be the best seen in the first quarter of 2013, but LG may get a foothold on their rivals and it would certainly innovate the industry to make rivals come up with chips even faster in the latter stage of 2013.

Aside from that super fast processor, the LG Optimus G2 is also likely to be equipped with a 5-inch 1080p display that features edge-to-edge technology – another feature that is thought to be in consideration for the elusive Galaxy S4. The Nexus 4 built by LG was a fine effort which has won universal praise for those able to get one, so it will be particularly exciting to see if LG can make their Optimus G2 even better.

How does a 2.0-2.5Ghz quad-core processor sound to you to kick things off very nicely in 2013? Will you take this phone into consideration once it is unveiled next week at CES?
