LG confirms Optimus handsets to get ICS, promises others as well

Ever since the next operating system for the Android platform was revealed lots of users have been wondering if their handset will get the update. While much has been made about the fragmentation of the platform, some handset manufacturers are quite good in revealing plans for rolling out new software. Earlier this month HTC revealed the first set of handsets to get the update, and today we can tell you that LG confirms what Optimus handsets are to get ICS and promises others as well.

Before now the company has been a bit slow with getting handsets up to date with the latest versions of Android. Earlier this year they released the LG Optimus 3D and Optimus 2X that were worthy handsets but came running Android 2.2 Froyo. Now according to The Verge the company has taken to its Italian Facebook page to reveal that the Optimus 2X, 3D and Optimus Black will all be getting a taste of Ice Cream Sandwich.

Earlier this month we told you that the Optimus 2X could still be getting the update after previous reports suggesting otherwise. According to LG it is looking at the software to see if it can be provided for lower specified handsets as well. The Optimus Black is an older single core powered device so owners of other handsets with similar specifications can take heart that they may eventually gets the new operating system.

There will be many different handsets launched since the tail end of 2010 that could possibly still receive it at some point. LG have promised another update next month that could also provide some clue to when the update will start rolling out to devices.
