Lexus stop-sale and recall LS 460 / 600h

We knew it was coming, but we have now had conformation that Toyota has issued a stop-sale and a recall on its LS 460 and LS 600h standard sedans. The reason for this recall is due to a problem with the electronic steering system, which as we know can become off-centered and not will return to its normal resting position after five seconds.

Detroit News reports that Toyota issued the recall on May 21, 2010 to address the problem, which they have done in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). 2010 is a year that Toyota will want to forget, but we are not even halfway through and they have already had a record number of recalls.

According to Autoblog, Toyota has already fixed the problem on the new models coming off the assembly line — so it is just those that are currently on the road. If you own a 2009 and 2010 Lexus LS sedan then you are asked to try and avoid sudden and fast turning of the steering wheel.

We do wonder how drivers can take this advice — there will be certain times that you will need to perform such a maneuver. Contact your local dealer for more details.
