There has been a report that Toyota was looking to get their hands dirty again by competing in motorsport. However, this time they will be using another brand to enter the GT series with the Lexus LFA supercar / sports car.
If the Japanese automaker decides to do this, then the LFA will be in direct competition with the Nissan GT-R. Sam Abuelsamid from Autoblog believes that this is a bit of a comedown for the LFA and believes that Toyota should consider GT2 instead.
Having a $375,000 compete in GT1 seems to be the wrong move and could do the Lexus LFA serious damage to its image — especially if the much cheaper GT-R will beat it in a race,
Peter Lyon from Motor Trend points out that Toyota would be able to claw back some of its R&D costs by competing in Japan’s GT series. Lets just hope that they do not crash too many, as they have a much higher ticket price than some of the other competing cars.
