Learn Jewish Mourner’s Prayer: iKaddish 1.0 free iPhone app

A free app that teaches the recitation of the Kaddish, the mourner’s prayer which is recited in the synagogue has just been released for owners of the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad.

Released by Davka Corporation the app displays the text of the Kaddish in the original Aramaic and English transliteration. The text is then chanted with each word highlighted as it is pronounced. The pronunciation and intonation of the Kaddish prayer can be difficult to master and that’s where the app lends a hand.

Users of the app can pause after each screen and simply tap to listen again of go forward to the next section. The app also has the audio and text of longer Rabbis’ Kaddish in both Sephardic and Ashkenazic pronunciations. An explanatory section about the Kaddish includes the English translation and additional information about its recitation.

iKaddish 1.0 is available free on the App Store. Requires iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad with OS 3.0 or later.
