Canon has had to issue a camera recall for two models, the EOS-1D X DSLR and the EOS-1D C Cinema EOS camera, and while these are not their biggest selling models, this latest recall will be a concern for those who own one of these. This certainly is not the news that we were hoping for today, as it was rumored that the Canon 70D would be announced today, although there’s plenty of time.
However, we don’t expect this will happen until August, this was the month the 70D predecessor was unveiled.
These new Canon recalls do not affect all EOS-1D X and EOS-1D C models. On the EOS-1D X, if the sixth digit from the left is 1-7, then your model is affected, and if you have the EOS-1D C and the sixth digit from the left is a 1, then this model will be included in the recall.
There is an exception to this, because if one of these cameras have an A in the battery compartment, then yours will be unaffected by this recall, which is illustrated above.
Reason for the Canon EOS-1D X and EOS-1D C recall — it seems that these affected models have an issue with AF searching, as they cannot lock onto the subject, and as a result the image in the viewfinder will not be clear and steady. Canon has said the reason for this is because the driving mechanism does not have the correct amount of lubrication.
