Well, the latest news on the 2017 VW Golf today is great, as we have just learned that this facelift model will be revealed to the world tomorrow, November 10, 2016. There have already been a few hints as to what Volkswagen will announce tomorrow, although it’s pretty clear that more details on its electrification strategy will be shared with us, along with its eventual release date and pricing.
In terms of what we know so far about the VW Golf update, we can tell you that the company has further honed the cab-backward design of the seventh-generation model, and that we can expect to see a new 48V petrol hybrid system announced as one of many powertrain options. Although, this is likely to be the main one seeing as though the German carmaker is to focus on fuel efficiency – which does seem funny to us considering their past issues.
Having said that, VW was already deep into its MQB architecture before that whole diesel emissions scandal, and so we should give the company the benefit of the doubt and listen to what they have to say.
What we do find interesting is how VW plan to make a 60MPG a real-world figure, and not just being achieved in strict driving conditions that all carmakers currently do.
